Why is this happening?

The recent events are not the first case of the blockade of the territory of the NKR by the Azerbaijani side. Every time Azerbaijan's actions were illegal. Firstly, the closure of the Lachin corridor contradicts the basic norms and principles of international law. Secondly, the blocking of the only road connecting the NKR with the outside world is a direct violation of paragraph No. 6 of the trilateral agreement of November 10, 2020. The guarantor of this agreement is the Russian peacekeepers stationed in the region. Now their post is blocked, and they are hardly able to restrain the Azerbaijani group. The situation on the contact line is on the verge of aggravation.

Unfortunately, terrorist attacks on the contact line occur with depressing regularity and have already become a new norm. Despite the fact that on November 10, 2020, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on ending the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, the confrontation did not stop. From August 1 to August 3, 2022, armed clashes took place between the Azerbaijani side and the defense army of the unrecognized NKR; due to violations of the ceasefire regime by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. On the night of September 13-14, 2022, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces fired at Jermuk, Goris, Sotk, Vardenis. This escalation has become unprecedented, as the territories of Armenia that are not related to the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic were attacked.
